Damien of Molokai

St. Damien of Molokai became assigned to the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i. At the time, the island of Moloka'i was used to banish those suffering from leprosy. Father Damien became a chaplain and volunteered to remain on the island as a permanent mission. While he was on the island, morale, settlements, and care were vastly improved. Father Damien contracted leprosy and continued to minister and care for those on the island until he himself died from the disease.

Couragous, compassionate, caring, and selfless, Father Damien continues to make an impact on everyone who hears his story.
