Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego, a Mexican peasant, with a message to build a church where she met him. After telling the bishop who wanted proof, Our Lady told him to go to the top of a hill, gather flowers, and bring them to the bishop in Juan Diego's tilma. When he opened his tilma in front of the bishop, the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe was imprinted on his cloak. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron of Mexico, the Americas, and mothers.
