About St Peregrine Laziosi Pocket Saint

St. Peregrine Laziosi has impressed many by his repentance and unfailing trust in God.  Part of an anti-papacy group, St. Peregrine often participated in heckling and protesting.  One time, St. Peregrine heckled and struck St. Philip Benizi who promptly forgave him.  This encounter profoundly changed St. Peregrine and he eventually joined the Servite Order and became known for his preaching and serving of the poor and sick.  One of the penances he placed on himself was to stand instead of sitting whenever he could.  Because of this, he developed a severe infection and other ailments in his leg which eventually led to cancer.  When the surgeon arrived to amputate his leg, the cancer mysteriously disappeared - something that St. Peregrine expected after seeing a vision the night before.  St. Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer patients.
