St. Rita of Cascia - Pocket Saints

St. Rita of Cascia is known for her unending faithfulness and love.  St. Rita entered into an arranged marriage at a very young age to a mean, immoral, and short-tempered man who had many enemies.  Thanks to St. Rita's unfailing love and prayer, her husband repented from his violent ways and sought to be a better person, before being murdered by a family he had feuded with.  St. Rita not only forgave his murderers but also prayed to God and spoke with her sons pleading with them to not avenge his murder.  After the death of her sons, St. Rita entered into a convent where she cared for her ill sisters and counseled lay individuals who came for guidance.  After praying that she could suffer the way Christ suffered, she was struck with a thorn wound to her head - a wound she carried the rest of her life.  She is the patron saint of impossible causes (with St. Jude), difficult marriages, parenthood, and widows.
