St. Damien of Molokai became assigned to the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i. At the time, the island of Moloka'i was used to banish those suffering from leprosy. Father Damien became a chaplain and volunteered to remain on the island as a permanent mission. While he was on the island, morale, settlements, and care were vastly improved. Father Damien contracted leprosy and continued to minister and care for those on the island until he himself died from the disease. He is the patron saint of outcasts, leprosy, & Hawaii.

As with many of our products, these items are handmade in small batches. This means that though we try to make products uniform, there may be slight differences from what you see in the product images (i.e. slight changes in knot formation, length, etc) due to the nature of handmade items.
